South Kent impacted my education and life by teaching me how to
think critically. In my history and literature classes, I learned to question
assumptions, analyze different perspectives, and reconcile disparate ideas.
These skills prepared me for my studies at Williams and continue to shape
the way I approach the world around me. This mindset went beyond the
classroom, where I found myself learning just as much from my peers as
from my teachers.
SKS exposed me to people from backgrounds vastly different from my own.
As someone who grew up in different countries overseas and was fortunate
enough to be exposed to many languages, cultures, and ways of life at an
early age, I realized that upon my arrival to school, I could still learn so much
from my classmates, regardless of whether they grew up in nearby towns or
far away continents. Those daily interactions broadened my horizons and
deepened my respect for different experiences and viewpoints.
Now, as a Fulbright Scholar, South Kent laid the foundation for the paths
I hope to pursue in law, diplomacy, or foreign affairs. Each of these fields
requires cross-cultural awareness, critical thinking, and a desire to learn,
which are qualities that SKS instilled in me and that continue to guide my
ambitions today.
